In determining your starting weight, get hold of a five pound dumbbell, and do as many curls using your biceps as you can. If you are able to do more than 10 repetitions without straining, add some weight to the dumbbell.

If you are unable to do an more than eight repetitions, try using a lower weight dumbbell. For you folks that are already training with weights, try going up to your next higher weight to obtain the best results. If you don not have any weights at the moment, you may want to invest in a small set of dumbbells, they are rather inexpensive and the good they will do you is well worth the cost.

Work Out Harder

When you are doing your cardiovascular routine, take note of your intensity levels to assess how much effort you are putting into it. If you are not huffing and puffing during your workouts, it may be time to boost your intensity levels.

A good barometer of the intensity level of the workout is you should be able to carry on a conversation, speaking in short sentences with a breath after each sentence. If you cannot do this, you may want to slow it down a bit. Exercising beyond this point shouldn't be done.

Vary Your Normal Routine

Your daily exercise routine should at the same time be able to keep you interested. One of the dangers of doing the same thing everyday is boredom, and with boredom comes quitting. By changing up your routine and not working on the same muscles day after day, you will keep you muscles "guessing". This alone will work to better build the muscle.
