Fad Diets - Why They Don't Work For Long
Do fad diets really work and are they worth your time, effort and money? Are they safe? We'll attempt to answer some of these questions in the next few paragraphs.
As unfortunate as it is, one of the first things that people do when they have realized that they've gained a few extra pounds is to start to panic and begin looking for the fastest "new" diet plan or diet gizmo that they can get their hands on to peel off the extra poundage as quickly as humanly possible.
This mentality can be a huge mistake. Attempting the quick fix is just that, a quick fix. If you think you have fixed the problem, the weight will generally come back as fast if not faster than you took it off.
Unless you're willing to change your lifestyle, you will face a never ending battle with yoyo dieting. Take the weight off, put the weight on, take the weight off, put the weight on....on and on and on you go. Instead of looking for the latest new diet fad that promises to shed 15 pounds a week stating that you'll never be hungry, try to start eating and exercising sensibly.
Most of the quick weight loss diets are generally based on losing body water. The diet may seem effective because you will take weight off very quickly, but you will gain it back just as fast, in fact, you'll start gaining it back just as soon as you begin normally hydrating yourself again.
There is not much sense in losing body water weight, what you need to lose is fat weight, a good and healthy diet will take time to work. A good diet generally incorporates some type of exercise along with it. A good diet will direct you toward a healthy and sensible diet and exercise program with the ultimate goal of permanently changing your lifestyle choices.
A good diet will take time to work, a 1-2 pound weight loss per week is a very good goal to strive toward. You may actually feel better about your diet and feel more motivated by losing 5-10 pounds per week, but it may be a mistake.
Generally speaking , anything above two pounds weekly will generally be a loss in lean muscle tissue and not fat. The consensus is that the quicker you lose weight, the more lean muscle mass that you will lose. Take it slowly, weaning out the fat instead of the muscle. |
Quick weight loss diets are excellent for the yoyo effect as we discussed above. It turns into a vicious cycle, anybody that has dieted a few times knows of that which I speak.
The more muscle mass that one has, the faster and more efficient your metabolism. Muscle will
burnmany more calories than fat tissue. So the more muscle you have, the easier it is to retain a healthy weight. The more muscle you have, the less your food intake will get stored as fat, because your metabolism will burn calories from your food much more quickly.
This point cannot be stressed enough. Eat a healthy diet, exercise sensibly, even a 2 mile walk anytime during the day will do wonders for your mood, confidence, and best of all will help you to feel better physically and emotionally.
