I Am Fat, Does That Mean I Am Not Fit

Can someone be fat and still be in good physical condition? Can a fat person get by with overeating to their heart's content by instituting a good cardiovascular and muscle training routine? Unfortunately, the Mayo Clinic states that it cannot be done. It would seem that those additional pounds do mean plenty of trouble down the road regardless of how much exercise is performed by the individual. An abundance of fat is not good for your blood pressure or your heart.

The main question is, is it possible for overweight folks to stay healthy by instituting a workout routine on a regular basis? It sounds like a good question because exercising at least 15 minutes per day can make a big difference for overweight people. Your blood pressure will drop and your cholesterol levels go down, thereby placing the individual in a much better mood and boosting energy levels. An individual may also say that "I am in pretty good shape, albeit I am a bit chunky. But I feel pretty darned good overall". Unfortunately, as we will see, fat is a killer no matter how much you exercise, or how good of shape you think you are in.

The experts at the Mayo Clinic state that by being overweight, it is a high risk factor for many health problems and that exercising may simply make you healthier at the moment. Exercise will not lower the risk of diabetes or heart problems down the road. As a younger overweight individual, you may not seem to notice any problems now, but years down the road toward middle age and older. These problems will surely begin to surface. Understand, to maintain good health, a healthy weight must be maintained for the long term.

An interesting aspect of these studies was that people who are at an ideal weight in relation to their body structure are just as at risk as overweight people if they don't exercise. Our bodies are built to exercise to a certain degree every day just to function properly. Maintaining a good weight without daily exercise is just not good enough. A brisk two mile walk in the evenings, 5 to 7 evenings per week is just what the Doctor ordered. If you have a problem spending 30-40 minutes per evening walking by yourself, get a dog. A dog is a wonderful companion, and will help you to live a longer, healthier, happier life.
